Japan Society of Point-of-Care Ultrasound

About us

Message from the president

To Improve medical care through the use of ultrasound, Point-of-Care Ultrasound Study Group was established in 2016. The study group has developed and transitioned into the Japan Society of Point-of-Care Ultrasound. The society has grown through collaboration between clinicians utilizing ultrasound at the bedside and in various other settings as point-of-care tools, and specialists in ultrasound examination across different fields. In recent years, nurses, who are closest to patients, have also actively participated in the society, helping to promote the appeal of “nurse-performed ultrasound.” This diverse and dynamic community fosters the exchange of ideas and the creation of unique “synergies”. With its non-invasive, patient-friendly, and portable capabilities for visualizing the body, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) holds immense potential. We invite you to join us in exploring and realizing these possibilities in our society.
Recently, we have seen remarkable contributions from medical students, clinical residents, and other young professionals in our society. POCUS has become recognized as a fundamental skill and an integral part of the clinical examination, supported by its growing emphasis in medical education and clinical training. The society remains committed to supporting the activities of younger members.
At the same time, we have heard from experienced and senior physicians working in clinics and community healthcare settings that they did not have many opportunities to comprehensively learn about ultrasound or POCUS during their training. We encourage them to utilize our society as a platform for recurrent education and to share the appeal and utility of POCUS based on their practical experience.
Under its new leadership in 2024, the Japan Society of Point-of-Care Ultrasound will aim to improve and enhance patient-friendly healthcare and patient care, while providing an environment where medical professionals from young practitioners to seniors, can easily participate and actively contribute.
